Krav Maga and Self-Defense Classes for Adults in Tel Aviv, Near Givatayim
At Internal Way, we offer practical Krav Maga and self-defense classes for women and men in East Tel Aviv, right next to Givatayim.
Our classes are suitable for complete beginners, people with some previous training, and those who want to improve their practical self-defense skills.
I'm Ron Melchet, a certified martial arts and self-defense instructor. I've been practicing martial arts since 1996.
In class, we work on striking, defensive techniques, movement, timing, distance, and dealing with pressure. We train with partners, improve fitness and coordination, and learn how to respond when situations change unexpectedly.
Training is practical and challenging, but I also want people to enjoy it. We train in small, mixed groups, with personal attention, a friendly atmosphere, and room for everyone to progress at their own pace.

What Do You Learn in Krav Maga and Self-Defense Classes?
Krav Maga is a practical fighting system developed to help people deal with threats and physical attacks. In my classes, I combine principles and techniques from Krav Maga, boxing, and other martial arts, focusing on skills that can be useful outside the training environment.
We practice:
-
Awareness and prevention: Recognizing potential danger early, understanding your surroundings, and avoiding confrontation when possible.
-
Stance and movement: Balance, posture, footwork, and maintaining appropriate distance.
-
Defensive and striking techniques: Punches, kicks, defensive movements, releases from grabs, and responses to different types of attacks.
-
Partner training: Working with different partners at varying speeds and levels of resistance.
-
Handling pressure: Developing the ability to respond and make decisions when situations become unpredictable.
-
Practical physical conditioning: Improving strength, endurance, coordination, and reaction speed.
I focus on helping students understand principles that apply across different situations, rather than relying only on memorized techniques.
The better you understand distance, timing, balance, and how to use your body effectively, the easier it becomes to adapt when something happens differently from the way you practiced it.
Who Are Our Krav Maga and Self-Defense Classes For?
Self-Defense for Women and Men in a Mixed Group
Our Krav Maga and self-defense classes are mixed, with women and men training together. Women with no previous martial arts experience are welcome and can join the group from the beginning.
We work with different training partners and learn to deal with differences in size, strength, and movement. Physical contact and resistance are adjusted according to each person's experience and ability, with attention to safety and mutual respect.
I want everyone to feel comfortable learning, trying new things, making mistakes, and improving. The atmosphere is friendly, and we take both the training and each other's safety seriously.
Krav Maga and Self-Defense for Beginners
Most people in our group started with no previous martial arts experience or only a little training.
You don't need to be particularly fit or know how to fight before joining. We start with the fundamentals: how to stand, move, manage distance, defend yourself, and respond to different situations.
As you progress, we gradually introduce more speed, resistance, and challenging exercises.
Even if you've never practiced martial arts before, you can join the group and develop your skills over time.
For People With Previous Martial Arts Experience
If you've trained in Krav Maga, boxing, karate, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, MMA, or another martial art, you're welcome to join.
Your previous experience gives you a useful foundation. Training can help you strengthen your fundamentals, improve timing, distance, and reactions, and explore how the skills you've already learned apply to practical self-defense situations involving resistance and unexpected changes.
Everyone comes with a different background, and there's always something more to explore and improve.

How Do We Train for Real-Life Self-Defense Situations?
Knowing how to perform a technique during practice is important. But in a real confrontation, things rarely unfold exactly as planned.
That's why training goes beyond learning movements. Once we understand a technique and the principles behind it, we gradually add speed, resistance, changing distances, and less predictable situations.
We also work on mental readiness and decision-making: recognizing a developing threat, knowing when to create distance, when to set boundaries, when physical action may be necessary, and when to stop once the danger has passed.
An important part of training is learning to use force efficiently and with control, including when facing someone bigger or stronger.
Training progresses gradually, with attention to safety. This gives us room to experiment, make mistakes, understand what works and what needs improvement, and build confidence through actual practice.
My Approach to Teaching Krav Maga and Self-Defense
Over the years, I've studied and practiced Krav Maga, boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Arnis, and Chinese martial arts, including Xing Yi Quan and Ba Gua Zhang.
Training in different systems has shaped the way I teach. I look for principles that remain useful across different situations. I want students to understand why a movement works and when to use it, rather than simply repeat a sequence of techniques.
The way we train together matters to me as well. In martial arts, we learn how to apply force, but also how to control it, take care of our training partners, and be responsible for one another.
I want training to be a place where people can work hard, challenge themselves, experiment, and improve without feeling they have to prove anything to anyone.
And I want the atmosphere to be good enough that people genuinely look forward to coming back to the next class.
